This is a cause close to our hearts, after losing a dear friend to this disease we are passionate about raising awareness of symptoms and early disease onset for younger people. We do this in their honour.
Bowel Cancer Australia's Never 2 Young initiative raises awareness of common symptoms and signs to support early detection of this cancer in young people.
Here are some statistics from the Bowel Cancer Australia website:
- Of the 5,354 Australians who die from bowel cancer each year, 290 (5.4%) are under the age of 50.
- Of those diagnosed with young-onset bowel cancer, 49.3% are male and 50.7% are female.
- Bowel cancer incidence is rising in those under age 50, while declining in older age groups
